The Taumarunui man charged with the possession of an allegedly stolen police Glock pistol is to appear in the Hamilton District Court next month.

Max Aramoana, 52, of Matiere, was arrested along with a 44-year-old man in a police methamphetamine operation in June last year.

The pistol is one of two Glocks stolen from the New Plymouth District Court.

It is not known when they were taken.

No one has yet been charged with the theft of the pistols which were used in the police shooting of Steven Wallace on April 30, 2000.

Aramoana is also charged with illegal possession of the Glock and other firearms, possession of cannabis and methamphetamine-related equipment.

Aramoana will next appear on June 6.

Police are asking the public for anyone with information related to the theft of the Glocks to contact them.

The Department of Justice said last week that court security has been increased since the theft was discovered.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
