Two dead after fatal crashes

A Hawea man is dead after an early morning crash, and another man has died in hospital after being struck by a car.  

Senior Sergeant Dave Scott,of the police District Command Centre, said the 34-year-old Hawea man, who was travelling on Cemetery Rd between 1am and 2.30am this morning, appeared to have overcorrected after drifting into a gravel verge.

The Toyota Landcruiser the man was driving then flipped several times, Scott said.

There was no one else involved in the incident. 

The Serious Crash Unit are investigating the crash, Scott said. 

The name of the driver is expected to be able to be released later in the day once the next of kin have been advised.

In a separate incident, a man who was struck by a vehicle on the Waimea Highway near Gore on May 17 has died. Brodie Carroll, 19, died last night. 

An investigation into the crash is continuing and police say that it is too early to say whether charges are likely
