Queen's Birthday weekend weather looking good
A mostly dry Queen's Birthday long weekend is on offer for the country with clear skies bringing some chilly nights.
MetService expects the only rain tomorrow to be a few morning showers about eastern parts of Northland and Gisborne, and showers about the south coast of the South Island. Morning frosts are possible south of Auckland.
Sunday is forecast to be mainly fine in the North Island but with cloud increasing in the north and late rain and a few showers about Gisborne.
The South Island is expected to be fine apart from showers about the south coast.
On Monday showers are expected from the Coromandel Peninsula to Northland, for Gisborne and possibly Hawke's Bay, with the rest of the North Island mainly fine.
In the South Island the weather is expected to be mainly fine, with coastal showers clearing from the far south.
Clear skies and dry conditions over the South Island during the weekend would make for a chilly start to the Christchurch Airport Marathon on Sunday morning.
Minimum temperatures were forecast to dip below freezing overnight, with daytime temperatures struggling to get into low double figures, MetService said.
