Auckland woman dies two days after crash

A Mt Wellington woman has died in Auckland Hospital following a head-on collision on Auckland's Southern Motorway on Friday morning.

Police said Karen Yin Yong died in hospital today surrounded by family after life support was switched off.

The 49-year-old was struck by another vehicle travelling the wrong way on the Southern Motorway.

Senior Constable Karl Bevin of the Waitemata Serious Crash Unit said, "it's a tough pill for the family to swallow and this was a needless loss of life".

The crash is under investigation.
