The family of a surfer missing for two days has taken to the skies to find him.

Duncan Munro, 43, of Gisborne was last seen at midday on Thursday.

His surfboard and car were gone from his home, police said.

He regularly made surf trips outside of Gisborne.

At 9.30am today, Munro's family hired a plane to search for him.
