Multi-car Wellington smash causing big delays

Significant delays are expected on State Highway 1 into Wellington after a crash involving up to four cars this morning.

NZTA said the crash was initially blocking the right-hand lane southbound, south of Porirua.

While it was cleared to the shoulder by 7.40am, ''significant delays'' were expected, a spokesman said.

Initial reports had it that between two and four cars were involved, police said.

There were no reported injuries but there was debris on the road.

A tow truck was needed to clear the scene.

Delays were expected.
