Auckland had its second coldest night of the year overnight and the MetService is warning tonight could be even colder.
Temperatures were sub-zero in some parts of South Auckland early this morning.Ardmore Airport recorded its second lowest temperatures of 2014, reaching -1.2 (minus 1.2) degrees at 6am.
The coldest night at Ardmore this year was on May 28 when it reached -3.
Auckland Airport dropped to a low of 2 degrees overnight, one degree warmer than May 28.
MetService meteorologist Liz Shaw said Auckland was forecast to be 1 degree tonight.
Wet weather would follow on Saturday followed by a comparatively warm 8 degrees tomorrow night - mainly due to an increase in cloud cover, Shaw said.
Heavy rain was due to hit Auckland and parts of Northland tomorrow morning and stretch until early Sunday afternoon.
Weather warnings were expected to be put in place for Northland, however Shaw said the rainfall would not be as severe as last week's storms.
The low pressure system was forecast to blanket Auckland with heavy clouds, before a low pressure system moved down from the north toward the Coromandel, she said.
