All but one of the 15 people injured when a bus crashed south of Gisborne yesterday has now been discharged.
A Turakina Maori Girls' College student with broken bones remains in Gisborne Hospital.
Twelve schoolgirls and three adults were taken to Gisborne Hospital with moderate and minor injuries following the crash on Wharerata Rd near Morere Springs about 3.30pm yesterday.
The girls were students of Turakina Maori Girls' College in Marton and had been on their way to compete in a national secondary schools kapa haka competition which starts today.
Most had cuts and bruises and some had broken bones, but were comfortable, the hospital said.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said four ambulances attended from Gisborne, Mahia and Wairoa and all patients had been taken to Gisborne.
Patchy cellphone coverage had hampered communication but paramedics had reached the incident about 4.20pm.
A police communications spokesman said it appeared the bus had crashed into a ditch but there was no other information yet about how the crash happened.
Family who wanted to know about the condition of their loved ones could call the hospital on 06 869 0500.
