Child hit by car in Papatoetoe
A child suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a car in South Auckland.
The incident happened about 3.25pm on Papatoetoe Great South Road between Shirley and East Tamaki Roads.
The boy was flown to Middlemore Hospital, St Johns Ambulance said.
The Counties Manukau Serious Crash Unit are at the scene, and the road remains closed, with diversions in place.
Closures are expected to be in place for about three hours.
Howard Wynyard, the year seven dean at Papatoetoe Intermediate, says he was at the scene as initial reports wrongly said the child was one of his students.
"The boy was responding but had head injuries."
Wynyard called nearby Papatoetoe Central School and was told it was one of their students.
