Sixty calves 'destroyed' after truck crash
Sixty calves had to be "destroyed" after a stock truck crash just out of Hamilton yesterday.
A truck carrying 400 bobby calves left Piako Rd, east of Hamilton, around 4pm on Friday after a tyre blow out, according to police.
"One of the front tyres blew out and that can affect the steering of the truck," said a police spokesperson.
A vet was forced to destroy 60 of the calves at the site. A number of others had minor injuries.
The remaining animals were moved into another truck and removed from the scene.
No humans were injured in the accident and no other vehicles were involved.
The road was closed and remained shut this morning due to damage caused by the truck.
