Electricity cut in Masterton
Power is out again in Masterton, Wairarapa, just hours after a major outage this afternoon.
Electricity was cut to 1200 properties in the south of the city at around 6pm, Powerco acting network operations manager Dean Stevenson said.
Powerco was investigating the cause of the fault and working to restore power.
Staff at Pak'n Save on Queen St said they still had power but it was dark all around the supermarket.
At 1pm, a fire at the Masterton substation cut power to 38,000 people in the Wairarapa and Upper Hutt.
A bird's nest near to electrical equipment caused the fire, Transpower spokeswoman Rebecca Wilson said.
Power was progressively restored between 2pm and 4pm.
