Christchurch police are seeking the occupants of a car found flipped on its roof off the Southern Motorway.
Police were interviewing witnesses at the Halswell Junction Rd and Springs Rd roundabout at 9.30pm tonight after the car was spotted upside down in a small gully with its headlights still on.
An officer at the scene said police could not find the driver or any passengers who are believed to have fled the scene.
He said it appeared the vehicle was headed east towards the centre city when the driver lost control on the two-lane roundabout.
No other vehicles are thought to be involved.
According to the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) there have been five reported crashes at the Halswell Junction Rd and Springs Rd roundabout since the Christchurch Southern Motorway opened in December 2012.
This has resulted in three minor injuries.
NZTA says an average of 21,500 drivers use the motorway every day.
