Some state highways reopened

Several highways around the country closed due to heavy snow over the past couple of days have reopened.

The New Zealand Transport Agency is now urging caution on SH2 at Rimutaka Hill and SH49 Ohakune to Waiouru.

SH1 Desert Road from Rangipo to Taihape opened at midday after being closed due to ice. 

Cautions were still in place for SH47 National Park to Tokaanu and SH4 National Park to Tohunga Junction.

In the South Island, SH87 Kyeburn to Outram also reopened at midday, but extreme care was required in the snow and black ice. 

Cautions were still in place for several roads in the region, with motorists advised to take extra care in the snow and ice.
