Ten criminal charges - including drug dealing, robbery and possession of cannabis - have been dropped after a police botch-up.
The officers involved in the criminal cases were not sworn-in properly, The Herald on Sunday revealed today.
An officer from Wellington District and one from Counties Manukau are now placed on restricted duties.
An investigation is under way as to how they were deployed without proper authorisation.
Last year, Parliament urgently passed legislation to validate an administrative error by police over the swearing in of 63 returning police officers.
The two mistakes are the result of changes to the Policing Act in 2008 where oaths sworn by returning officers had to be administered by the Commissioner of Police or a person authorised by him instead of the previous method of district commanders or inspectors.
