A pregnant woman was injured when the car she was travelling in hit black ice south of Taupo this morning.
The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter flew the 20-year-old to Waikato Hospital with head and shoulder injuries after the crash on State Highway One at Hatepe.
It was reported to police at 5am and police found a car on its roof. Three occupants were uninjured and a fourth was transferred.
Police consider that black ice may have been a contributing factor in the crash and report that sections of the highway in the area are quite treacherous.
Taupo Police ask that motorists drive with caution and watch for ice.
Roading contractors have been advised and will be gritting sections of highway today.
