Guns, ammunition stolen from farm

Eight guns and ammunition have been stolen from a safe on a farm in western Southland.

Police said the building on the Taramoa farm near Riverton was entered sometime between August 1 and yesterday and the safe was broken into.

Seven of the firearms were shotguns, between 12 and 20 gauge, while a large amount of shotgun ammunition was stolen. 

The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at $14,000.

Riverton police have asked for public help in solving the crime.
