Police are deciding whether charges will be laid against a driver who crashed his car through this fence and into a tree in Te Aroha. The man escaped with minor injuries after the crash at the corner of Rewi St and Rolleston St on Saturday.

The man was the only occupant in the vehicle, said Senior Constable Craig Gordon of Te Aroha Police. The car bowled through a fence belonging to a resident before coming to a stop at the tree about 12.30pm. The driver was taken to Waikato Hospital for assessment and later discharged, Gordon said.

Te Aroha resident Clem Apted saw the carnage and said the driver appeared to have lost control. "If it wasn't for the tree [he] would have gone into the house. To end up like that you have to be hooning, and he obviously lost control."
