A truck driver became trapped in his truck when it crashed on the West Coast on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on State Highway 6 near Coal Creek, north of Greymouth, at 5.24am.
The truck had left the road and crashed, trapping its 44-year-old male occupant inside, a fire service southern communications spokesman said.
Firefighters managed to "extricate" the man soon after they arrived on the scene, he said.
It was not known how long he had been trapped in the truck for, he said.
An ambulance southern communications spokesman said the man was transported to Greymouth Hospital with moderate injuries.
The police Serious Crash Unit would investigate the incident today, a police spokesman said.
