Family and friends of a missing 19-year-old in Waipu are appealing to the public to help in their search.
Siaosi (also known as George) "Cee" Matafeo was last seen on Tuesday just after 7pm.
He left work suddenly and has not been seen since. His family fears for his safety as they say his behaviour is very out of character.
Cee's friend and former housemate Laura Martin is concerned about his mental wellbeing.
"There's a girl online he's been trying to help. He says she's in danger, but when we tracked her down she lived in New York," Martin said.
While police have been notified they are unable to take action as there's no definite area to search.
Instead Matafeo's family and friends have been searching Waipu and door-knocking with firemen and members of the Lions Club.
Martin says the boy's mother is distraught and he has a 3-year-old sister and a 17-year-old brother who miss him.
"He's the most loving, gentle, caring person. He'd go out of his way to help anyone.
"My wish is he will see this and see how many people need him."
His mother wanted to send him a message: "I love you, my son. Please come home."
Matafeo is of Maori and Samoan ethnicity and is 6ft 2in. He was last seen wearing black canvas shoes, polo neck shirt, black jumper and black shorts.
