Woman killed while walking dog

A 64-year-old Wairarapa woman was killed today when she was struck by a car while walking her dog.
The accident happened shortly before midday on High Street South, State Highway 2, in Carterton, Sergeant Chris Megaw said.
The woman stepped on to the Frederick Street pedestrian crossing and was hit by a Toyota Prado being driven south by a 68-year-old Carterton man.
First aid attempts by nearby workers failed and the woman died from her injuries.
Mr Megaw said police wanted to speak to any witnesses.
