Timaru blaze under control

UNDER CONTROL: Firefighters dampen down hotspots in the smouldering wrecks of cars this morning.

A large fire in a Timaru car wreckers yard has been brought under control, though one person is understood to have been injured.
The blaze at the Coonoor Rd business was reported shortly after 8am and was fought by duty fire crews from Timaru, Washdyke and extra crews were called in to help from as far away as Temuka.
It is understood the injured person was cutting up a car when an explosion happened. It is not yet known what injuries they received.
As firefighters battled the fire which spread through several cars, explosions could be heard. Thick, black and acrid smoke was thrown into the sky.
Fire safety are investigating.
