LATEST: The Fire Service was called to Wellington's Thorndon Summer Pool this morning after reports of a chemical spill.
A lone swimmer was evacuated from the Thorndon Summer Pool at about 8.30am after two chemicals were mixed together, creating a vapour.
Staff called the fire service after a small amount of liquid chlorine was ''accidentally'' mixed with another cleaning chemical, Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean said.
The swimmer was evacuated and the fire service was called as a precaution.
The Fire Service removed the chemical mixture, and the pool was reopened, he said.
This was not a common occurrence, and staff would be reminded about which chemicals could be mixed and which could not.
''Generally speaking, the chlorine and the other chemical aren't supposed to be mixed together.''
