Twisters formed over the Manukau City and Papakura areas.

TWIST AND SHOUT: Stuff reader Jonathan Boucher used his cellphone to capture images of the two twisters that hit South Auckland while he was stuck in traffic.

Stuff.co.nz reader Chris Rigby said he watched one of the twisters form over Papakura at about 5pm yesterday.

"It started forming slowly. I watched it develop a cone shape and then it dissipated again before it reached the grond.

"(It) took place over about 5 minutes and it made it down about halfway between the ground and the cloud cover which was quite high."

Another Stuff reader, Jonathan Boucher, used his cellphone to capture images of the two twisters while he was stuck in traffic near Silvia Park shortly after 5pm.

He said he could see "two black funnels either forming or dissipating".

Early reports suggested the twisters had caused damage to houses and a shop but these were later found to be false.
