Police divers today recovered the body of Hungarian kayaker Gellert Csaba Mudra from Lake Wakatipu, a week after he went missing.

Mr Mudra, 41, was last seen kayaking in Queenstown Bay about 4.45pm last  Friday.

Detective Sergeant Grahme Bartlett, of Queenstown, said Mr Mudra's body was found in Queenstown Bay, about 50 metres from shore, by police divers.

An autopsy will  be held tomorrow.
