The 78-year-old tramper reported missing yesterday in northern Hawke's Bay has been found safe and well after spending an unplanned night in the bush.
Search and rescue teams began searching the Tutira area yesterday afternoon when the man was reported missing by other members of his tramping group who were on a day tramp to Lake Opouahi.
Senior Sergeant Dean Goodall said the man was found this morning in the area, apparently unscathed from his overnight stay in the bush.
They were concerned for his safety as he was unprepared for a night in the bush, he said.
The experienced tramper had become disorientated and lost his way in the bush.
