A four-year-old boy and his 27-year-old father suffered head and leg injuries after their 4WD slid down a bank on a farm near Geraldine today.
Both were airlifted to Christchurch Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be serious, police said.
Police said the incident happened about 11.15am on a Maslin Rd farm, between Geraldine and Fairlie.
A police communications spokesman said a child was in the vehicle and the boy's father outside, when there may have been a mechanical fault, understood to be related to braking.
The 4WD began rolling and went over a bank. The child's father was injured as he tried getting back into the moving vehicle, the spokesperson said.
