Two Christchurch children have been honoured for the quick thinking that rescued their mothers.

Callum Cameron, 8, saved his mother, Michelle Cameron, by running next door to get help when she went into anaphylactic shock.

His mother would have died if she had not been given immediate medical attention.

Beth Purkiss, 6, rang her grandmother for help when her mother, Corrina Purkiss, fell ill with a severe migraine that left her unable to speak or move.

The two children were given the Junior Neighbourhood Support achiever of the year award yesterday.

Corrina Purkiss said she was proud her daughter not only called for help, but also looked after her siblings Ella, 4, and Luke, 2, during her illness.

"I feel really proud of her. I think it is brilliant. Beth also helped look after the baby as well, and he was only one at the time," she said.

"I would not have been able to use the phone."
