Auckland police are concerned for the safety of a teenage boy who has been missing for more than a week.

Fourteen-year-old Nigel Mansell was last seen at Mt Albert Train Station about 11am on December 19 by his CYFS caregiver, said Constable Kimi Upu, of Avondale police.

Police had "real concerns" for his wellbeing because of his age, he said.

Nigel was believed to visit the West Auckland area, especially Westgate Shopping Mall.

He also could have tried to make his way to Kaitaia where his previous caregiver and family lived, Mr Upu said.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who knows where Nigel is.
