Teens use toy plastic leg to threaten shopper

A man who was threatened and had his bag of groceries stolen, allegedly by three drunk teenagers armed with assorted weapons, ran to a police station for help.

Police say the man, 27, was walking through Terrace Gardens Park in central Wellington on Boxing Day when he was confronted by the trio about 6.45pm. They were allegedly armed with a knife, stick and plastic toy leg.

They demanded his groceries and he gave them the bag. The victim was not hurt, and ran to the city's central police station.

Three teenagers have been arrested and jointly charged with assault using a stick, a knife and a plastic toy leg and stealing groceries worth $24.25.

Two will appear in the Youth Court today. The third person, 18, appeared in the district court yesterday.
