Under-fire ex-All Black Robin Brooke paraded around a Fijian hotel grounds dressed in a G-string and bra after losing a bet just hours before he allegedly groped a 15-year-old girl and choked a 17-year-old boy who came to her aid on New Year's.
Sunday News has obtained photos of Brooke in the get-up, caked in heavy make-up, and with the word LOSER across his torso in pink lipstick, as he posed with guests and locals at the Sheraton Denarau Villas at around 9.30pm on New Year's Eve.
The 43-year-old former rugby hardman also appears to have had both his eyebrows shaved off.
A guest at the beachside hotel told Sunday News last night Brooke and his entourage, including fellow former-All Black Craig Innes, were simply having a "bit of fun".
Members of the group were drinking, but their behaviour was good-natured and didn't offend other guests.
"He [Brooke] was with a large group of friends and family – they were all just having a laugh," said the guest, who asked not to be named. "There were a whole group of them – adults, teenagers and younger kids.
"It was all controlled – it was just like any other group of people having fun at New Year's."
The guest said Brooke paraded around in the G-string and bra for about 20 minutes.
"If you hadn't known who it was, you would just have thought it was another guest at the hotel with family and friends having fun on New Year's Eve," he said.
"We thought it was a laugh and if it had've been anyone else it would have been the same thing."
After seeing Brooke in good spirits and having fun, the guest said he was "pretty surprised" to later hear of the allegations.
The guest was amazed when he learned of the accusations against Brooke over the two teens, which allegedly happened about 2am at the nearby Denarau Hilton.
Brooke has been accused of grabbing the 15-year-old's bottom while she was poolside with two friends. When her 17-year-old Australian friend, Jordan Whittaker, tried to intervene, Brooke allegedly threw him on a deckchair and grabbed his throat.
Brooke has maintained a silence since the scandal first erupted, and was not returning calls last night.
But three different sources have told Sunday News that the ex-All Blacks lock had lost a swimming race with a teen – not part of the group including Whittaker – earlier that day.
The bet between the two was that the loser had to carry out a series of dares.
A source close to Brooke confirmed the rugby star had lost a bet.
"Part of the bet, was the winner said, `Look, this is what you have to do'," he said.
Fijian police have been investigating the alleged groping of the 15-year-old and choking of Whittaker.
They would not comment on the case yesterday.
On Wednesday, Brooke's lawyers – Tauranga-based Adams and Horsley – released a statement, saying their client's silence was due to the ongoing police investigation.
It read: "It is important not to jeopardise the integrity of that process. In addition, others have chosen to initiate a formal legal process.
"Mr Brooke is naturally distressed by the situation. He has made himself freely available to the authorities, but as you will appreciate cannot comment publicly."
Whittaker's family has engaged a lawyer, and are reportedly seeking an apology and compensation payment from Brooke.
Nadi hotel operator Phil Buckleton, whose child was among the group of teens who complained about Brooke, said last night the 15-year-old girl's parents were also considering civil action.
Buckleton said he was "100 per cent" sure Brooke wouldn't be charged by Fijian police.
Meanwhile, Hilton Denarau manager Brice Pean has slammed reports his hotel's security officers failed to come to the 15-year-old girl's aid after her alleged groping.
"We were called about an incident, which our security ... assessed. By the time our security arrived, half of the people [allegedly] involved had already walked off the property," Pean said.
"The [alleged] instigator of the events walked off the property.
"It was only after the fact that we found out that allegedly there were these ex-All Blacks. We didn't know at the time who they were. We didn't know that they were rugby players."
Pean said hotel security had then instructed the youths and their parents to make a formal complaint with the Fijian police.
Neither Brooke's lawyers nor Whittaker responded to calls from Sunday News yesterday. Innes said he was unable to comment while the investigation continued.
