Mercury spill at research centre

Three Hamilton Dairy NZ staff at the city’s Ruakura Research Centre faced decontamination procedures after up to 10mls of mercury was spilt late this afternoon.
A Fire Service spokesperson said the affected staff were treated with decontamination showers by the firefighters after 5 to 10mls of the substance spilt.
One staff member had minor mercury contamination and was treated by St John Ambulance staff.
Firefighters are currently preparing to leave the research centre in the suburb of Silverdale.
