Former All Black Murray Mexted's Hawke's Bay holiday home has been destroyed in a suspected arson attack.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started at the bach on the Mahia Peninsula, and have not ruled out arson.
Mexted has upset locals with plans for a six-lot subdivision on the section.
The fire comes on the eve of an Environment Court hearing about the development plans, The Sunday Herald reported.
The bach was to be pulled down to make way for the subdivision.
