Train derailment spills wine

A train believed to be carrying wine has derailed at Tokomaru, sending four carriages carrying wine off the track.
The derailment happened about 8.30pm tonight at Rewa Rewa St in the small Manawatu town, near Linton Army base, when the freight train was heading to Palmerston North.
Fire communications relieving shift manager Belinda Beets said the train had kept going after the carriages derailed, stopping a short way down the track.
Wine was leaking into a nearby water way, so Horizons Regional Council would be contacted, she said.
Three fire appliances had been sent to the scene, and no-one was believed to be injured.
The Capital Connection commuter train service was likely to be replaced by buses tomorrow as a result of the derailment, KiwiRail said.
