Some Upper Hutt train line passengers had to take part of their journey by bus this afternoon because of a fault disrupting services between Trentham and Upper Hutt.

At 3.10pm, a Tranz Metro alert said services were running 20 minutes late because of a signals fault but would return to normal in 30 minutes.

However, in a subsequent message at 4.20pm, Tranz Metro said buses would be replacing trains between Trentham and Upper Hutt because of the continuing fault.

TranzMetro advised at about 6pm that services were running on time on the line.
