LATEST: Power has been restored to central Auckland after an outage this afternoon.
Vector said that power failed in the central business district and Freemans Bay.
The company's communications manager, Phillipa White, said the cut was caused by an underground cable fault in Nelson Street.
Around 680 customers were affected, along with some city traffic lights, she said.
Customers in the area were without power for just over an hour.
