A Canadian man has been fined $800 after his mini-van collided head-on with a tour bus full of sightseers in Wellington's Oriental Bay.

Marc Boileau, 54, of North Vancouver, was in New Zealand with his family on holiday.  He crossed the centreline on a sharp left hand bend at Point Jerningham about 11.30am yesterday.

He pleaded guilty in Wellington District Court this morning to careless driving causing injury.

Judge Denys Barry convicted and fined him $800, which Boileau paid immediately.

Four people received minor injuries and a woman received a cut to her chin that needed butterfly stitches.
