Part of Wiri in Manukau City has been evacuated after a crash ruptured a gas line this afternoon.

A police northern communications centre spokesman said a two-car crash at the intersection of Roscommon Rd and Browns Rd had ruptured a high pressure gas line.

Emergency services and the gas company were on scene

Injuries to the motorists involved were believed not to be serious.

The immediate area has been evacuated and road blocks are in place at Roscommon/Wiri Station; Browns/Rowendale; and Roscommon/Burbank Roads.

Motorists and the general public were asked to stay away from the location until the scene was confirmed safe.
