A driver died when his truck and trailer unit went out of control and crashed down a bank in a remote part of Hawke's Bay yesterday.
Hastings police today said that Albert Renata, 63, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.
The crash happened about 2pm near an intersection on State Highway 50 at Maraekakaho, 20km west of Hastings.
There were no other vehicles involved and a police spokesman said Mr Renata's vehicle hit several banks before going down another.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash.
