You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs – and the same goes for car safety messages. The yolks are flying as much as the puns in the Transport Agency's new campaign.

About 12 dozen eggs were used to make four videos, which have been posted online, urging people to look at safety first when buying a car.

And the clips are already proving popular, attracting about 850 hits a day in their first week.

The videos show "Gregg" and "Shelby" putting their "car-tons" through safety tests – getting scrambled and cracked in the process. Number plates include "SCRMBLD" and "FR33RANGE".

In one clip Gregg comes to a yolky end after being subjected to the side-impact test. "Oh dear. Well, although Gregg got scrambled, we did learn some valuable lessons about making safer cars," the narrator says.

The videos look at buying a car, safety tests, side airbags, and electronic stability control.

Agency advertising manager Rachel Prince said the videos were a way to get the safety messages across in an entertaining way.
