Police have issued a plea for help over the disappearance of Wellington lawyer Robert Logan.

A 60-strong search team failed to find any trace of the 51-year-old at the weekend, though both land search and rescue volunteers and the police dive squad were called in to help.

Mr Logan was last seen at Kilbirnie's Woolworths supermarket around 9.30pm last Thursday.

His white 1991 Nissan Sunny stationwagon was found parked at the Owhiro Bay car park last Friday afternoon.

Mr Logan is an environmental lawyer and recently headed the successful Environment Court case to stop Wellington City Council's plan to sell two sections on the south coast, next the old Owhiro Bay quarry entrance, for housing development.

Police had initially called off the search for Mr Logan after the weekend, but renewed it following the discovery of video footage from the supermarket.

They believe the footage is the last confirmed sighting of Mr Logan before he went missing, and say it is "vital" anyone with information contacts police.

The public can call police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
