The family of missing Wellington man Robert Logan has thanked the dozens of searchers who have looked for him and expressed hope he will be found.
Mr Logan's white 1991 Nissan Sunny station wagon was found at the Owhiro Bay car park on Friday, August 27.
The last confirmed sighting of the 51-year-old was about 9.30pm the previous night at Woolworths supermarket in Kilbirnie.
Mr Logan's older brother, Jim, told The Dominion Post that his brother was an "extraordinarily talented" and valued member of the family who was greatly missed.
"We are very concerned at his disappearance. Although the situation is bleak, we remain hopeful that Robert will be located. We miss him dreadfully and want him back with us."
Island Bay resident Jim Bruce said his friend would plant natives on ridges around the South Coast every weekend with his Southern Environmental Association, had served the local residents association for many years and was a talented organist for the Island Bay Presbyterian Church.
"He's a brilliant bloke. There's a lot of people ... who are praying that he'll return and there'll be a resolution to this."
Jim Logan hailed the search effort that had been made so far.
"The police, Search and Rescue and a large number of community volunteers and individuals have made a big effort to locate Robert, for which we are extremely thankful."
Police spokeswoman Victoria Evans said police were continuing the search and keeping an open mind about his whereabouts.
A search team of about 60, including Search and Rescue volunteers, officers from the police dive squad, maritime unit and police from Horowhenua and Wairarapa spent last weekend looking for Mr Logan.
Anyone with information should ring Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
