Searchers will scour the Wellington coast on Saturday for a swimmer who went missing from Oriental Bay.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Coastguard and a police launch searched for the man until about 10pm after he failed to return from a swim.
He was seen leaving his clothes on the shore and entering the water about 6.45pm.
Searchers would scour the coast from first light tomorrow and divers would be dispatched, police central communications Inspector Mike Coleman said.
Shipping in the area had been alerted.
