A man who took part in a vampire-style attack on a teenager has had his sentencing adjourned to see if he can find an address to serve community detention.

James Brooks, 22, had pleaded guilty to wounding with reckless disregard.

The victim, whose name is suppressed, had been bitten; his wounds became infected and required hospital treatment.

Judge Mike Behrens, QC, was due to sentence Brooks yesterday in Wellington District Court but the friend's address where Brooks had hoped to serve community detention had fallen through.

He turned up at court with his yellow hair flat but, during a break, popped out and returned with it gelled into a mohawk.

He told the judge the mate was involved in a custody case and did not want Brooks living there, which he did not blame him for.

Judge Behrens accepted that sentencing had to be adjourned and remanded him on bail till November. Two others are defending the charges.
