A helicopter that was stuck hovering above the ground at south Auckland's Ardmore Airport after its throttle jammed on full has landed safely.
Eight fire engines rushed to the airport after being alerted the Schweizer 269C-1 helicopter was unable to land and only had an hours fuel at about 6.23pm tonight.
A fire service spokesman said the helicopter did manage to land by 7.04pm.
The helicopter was leaking a small amount of fluid but neither the pilot or passenger were injured.
Ardmore Helicopters staff refused to comment on the incident but said they may release a statement later.
Early reports said the helicopter had crash landed.
