Charges considered after girl accidentally shot
Police are considering laying charges after a 15-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the abdomen in Rolleston, near Christchurch.
The girl was inside a house when a pistol was discharged from an adjoining garage about 11.45pm on Monday.
The bullet went through the garage wall and struck her, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Murton said.
The girl suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Murton said it appeared the shooting was accidental and police were considering whether to lay charges.
He would not comment on whether the shooter was a family member.
A scene examination was completed on Tuesday morning.
A Christchurch Hospital spokeswoman said the girl was comfortable and recovering.
