Police say a suspicious package found outside the Devonport Naval Base was not a bomb.
Personnel had called police after spotting a suspicious package outside the entrance to the navy base shortly after 6.30pm today.
A Northern Police Communications spokesman told Stuff that the package turned out to be innocent.
A cordon that had been set up blocking the road into the naval base has been removed and emergency services have left the scene.
A Devonport resident, who did not want to be named, said he walked past the road to the naval base on the way home this evening and saw a police car keeping guard to the entrance to the road that leads to the base.
