A guide dog that was attacked by a pitbull in Hamilton yesterday has returned home to Australia with its owners.
Police were called to The Base shopping centre at Te Rapa yesterday afternoon after a pitbull leaped from a car, attacking the eight-year-old golden labrador.
The guide dog was in New Zealand with its blind owner and her husband, who was also bitten in the attack.
The unregistered dog was immediately seized by animal control officers and remains impounded while its fate is decided.
Police were awaiting a veterinary report before laying charges against the female pitbull's owner.
