LATEST: Eight fire engines and more than 40 firefighters battled a blaze at in the roof at Ballance's Kapuni Urea plant in Taranaki this morning.
The fire was reported to the Kaponga Brigade about 9.30am but by 10am a third alarm had been raised to call in reinforcements from right around the region, Taranaki Area manager Pat Fitzell said.
''It is a reasonable sized fire,'' Fitzell said earlier.
''There are concerns it is going to get bigger and we don't want that to happen.''
Crews wearing breathing apparatus had entered the building, and the blaze was now under control.
Firefighters would be at the scene for quite awhile, Fitzell said.
