Fire at McDonald's outlet in central Wellington
Relevant offers
Firefighters are investigating a small fire at a central Wellington McDonald's restaurant.
The fast food outlet is inside a BP service station at the intersection of Taranaki and Wakefield Streets.
A Fire Service spokesman said the small fire in a flue was out but staff were investigating to ensure it had not spread elsewhere.
Ambulance staff were also in attendance as a precaution and police are diverting traffic.
Taranaki St was closed between Wakefield and Cable Streets.
Commuters also faced delays last night after a northbound car caught fire on the motorway.
Inspector Ian Harris said it appeared the car had run over a mattress, which had probably come off another vehicle, and caught fire about 6.50pm near the Aotea Quay on-ramp.
Traffic was slowed for two hours while firemen cleaned up.
No one was reported hurt.
