Fatal cliff fall not suspicious
Police have identified a young man who fell to his death from a cliff at Mairangi Bay beach on the North Shore this morning.
They say his death is not suspicious.
Senior Sergeant Grant Tetzlaff said police had spoken with the man's family and would release his name once they had time to inform extended family - possibly tomorrow.
The 20-year-old was found dead, near the Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, by a boy shortly before 10.40am.
Despite the man not having any identification on him police managed to locate his family, who live on the North Shore, reasonably quickly, Tetzlaff said.
The matter will now be referred to the coroner.
The cliff top walk between Mairangi Bay and Campbells Bay winds up from the beach through trees at the top of the cliff and is popular with The walkway along the cliff top was temporarily closed.
In July, North Shore woman Inna Rudyy-Collie, 44, was killed by rocks falling from a cliff at nearby Rothesay Bay as she was walking her dog.
